Greg Satell offers a nice article today about the shift from 20th century corporate thinking to 21st century platform thinking.
We are still in the early stages of this shift, but the direction is fairly clear. It is less important what resources you own than how you connect in an ecology or resource development and use. Indeed, getting encumbered with resource ownership can be a negative if it slows you down from adapting to changes in a given ecology.
Here is the thing. When you boil it all down, we are all potential platform builders. Each of us has something to offer to others and could leverage that offering if we had the right platform to access a market. You might call this our “super niche” – the thing we are dedicated to.
