Re-Thinking Commentary

Over the last year or so, I have become more and more interested in the idea of commentary. Not so much in its traditional form, like news or sports commentary, and not so much as in “comments” that one finds below web articles.  But in how commentary is being inserted into less traditional settings. This is early days for non-traditional commentary, but you get a sense of what I am talking about from Fred Wilson’s post on the commentary about a video game.

The basic point is simple. We are going to see commentary about a lot more stuff than we used to. And we are going to see it in new forms. Questions such as what we comment about, and how we do it, and how commentary develops int conversation and then changes values will receive broader attention. Stay tuned.
