The University of Waterloo is innovative. That point is known. The latest thing they have done is further evidence of that spirit. They have opened a new department that is dedicated to “smart transportation”.
GAIA will consist of three labs: one focusing on powertrain efficiency, another on longer-lasting batteries for hybrid and electric cars, and a third lab for testing research-modified hybrid electric vehicles on rolling dynamometers.
Why is this important? It creates the opportunity for a better mix of researchers form across disciplines.
