Rita Gunther McGrath makes an interesting argument in the last chapter of her book “The End of Competitive Advantage”. It goes like this. As markets disrupt firms, it appears that relationships get disrupted as well. In fact, relationships is pretty much all we have left.
In the midst of this, it is worth while for the individuals working in this environment to consider their network building capacity as their own personal resource. These networks should include people in your domain and across domains. Digital tools make networking easier — and the more people that use them, the more effective they become.
But it starts with you. Make networking a daily activity.
