McGrath – A Paradox of Balancing Stability and Agility

From Rita Gunther McGrath’s book, “The End of Competitive Advantage”. Rita notes that companies that are able to reconfigure at a rapid rate (and thus take advantage of new opportunities) balance stability and agility. How? Their stability tends to be based on the strength of relationships within the firm and with clients and partners. They commit to developing people.

  • by insuring a shared ambition
  • through strong culture
  • through balancing deployment and development
  • with stable ladership
  • and with stable relationships
