You might read it to check out the latest thinking about what might happen with bitcoin this year. Or you might focus instead on the underlying idea of how “proprietary first movers” tend to act – they tend to build closed systems.

When you think about it, a lot of the systems in place these days — that we use every day — are relatively closed. You cannot go to the bank, for example, and propose a better way to process payments. Try going to your supermarket to offer them a new product for sale. We accept this as normal, but in fact, there is no reason to do so. That is just the way things are.

The age of technology is helping us see this more clearly. But we are still in the early stages of this revolution.
