Fred Wilson posted today about a project in Red Hook, New York to build a “mesh network”. he writes
(in a mesh network)= the nodes (think of them like public wireless access points) talk to each other and form a network that operates even if its is not connected to the public Internet
Why is this important? If frees up the local network from dependency on a national carrier service. That is an empowerment issue. I mention this because I am very interested in local empowerment. Part of that is getting the right infrastructure.
