Bacteria as Friends, an Ongoing Learning Adventure

I have been posting for a while about a new idea. The idea is that we have around 100,000,000,000,000 bacteria in our tummies. And they are not just sitting there playing cards. They do stuff that keeps us healthy or makes us sick. And the kicker: what we eat affects the health and diversity of that ecosystem.

This is a pretty new area. Most interesting to me is the potential connection between that bacterial ecosystem and “inflammation”. In this context, inflammation means waking up the immune system. It seems that eating lots and lots of meat does this.

If this interests you, you might check out this Guardian fluff piece by Andrew Anthony that offers a tour of the good, the bad and the ugly in your gutt! It is a fun read, and informative.
